Sandbox games are popular these days to the degree that the style is now becoming an industry norm. Whether it's Grand Theft Auto V or the recently released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, having an open world to explore is becoming more traditional with every new release. But there is one sandbox game that hasn't been discussed in a long time and that game is Red Dead Redemption. The Western game not only had beautiful environments, but was filled with tremendous gameplay elements. The game also included one of the most well crafted narratives the industry had seen at the time. Looking back, Red Dead Redemption was lightning in a bottle and had a uniqueness about it that still stands even five years after its launch.

As if this already sweet piece of video game pie couldn't possibly get any better, Rockstar turns around and announces its first DLC. Usually, announcements like these piss me off to the core, especially when publishers are trying to hit gamers up for more bread right after they spent 60 bucks on the title alone. However, Rockstar is about to hook us all up with Co-op goodness available for download on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in June at the same time for the price of free. "Outlaws to the End" is the name of the expansion and it allows for 2-4 players to join up online and take on 6 additional missions in the game. Check out some descriptions as well as new screens from some of the missions beSince it was developed by Rockstar, there were definite similarities between Grand Theft Auto gameplay-wise. Red Dead Redemption wasn’t just Grand Theft Auto in the old west, though; there was something more to the game. Sure, you could talk to your companion while you traversed the open landscape, but Red Dead Redemption had deeper gameplay mechanics than its modern counterpart. While the game was overall a standard third person action shooter, there were parts the completely stood out. It's a simple feature, but exploring every nook and cranny by way of horse was a unique and fresh way to find various locations. And since the game's release, riding horses to explore is becoming a more popular trend. The duels were another prominent feature. Utilizing the gunslinger mechanic which slowed down gameplay, duels offered a gruesomely unique experience.  
Red Dead Online appears to be following the same blueprint as Grand Theft Auto Online, as the online world will blend "narrative with competitive and cooperative gameplay in fun new ways." Players will be able to work together, or as a lone wolf, as they explore the vast, open world of the wild west. While elements from the single-player campaign will be brought into Red Dead Online, the mode will also act as a product separate from the actual game – much like Grand Theft Auto Online being a separate product from Grand Theft Auto

The push to microtransactions could have something to do with recent reports that Red Dead Online is hemorrhaging money month after month. Whether it's the period setting with lack of exciting weaponry and vehicles or extended wait between updates that's putting gamers off, there's something clearly wrong with Red Dead Online . Another huge problem is the wait fans have experienced to even get to this update. Even in beta, three months is a long time to wait for fixes. It’s easy to imagine the multiple scenarios that might be brought to life even more just from playing RDR2 in first-person. Horseback shootouts can have more feeling. Bar brawls will feel that true punch. Being chased down by whatever local law enforcement comprised of sheriff and deputy could feel palpably tense. While Rockstar has yet to show how first-person will function, hopefully they’ve taken some lessons out of their own book with GTAV. First-person has come a ways in games with titles such as Dishonored, Prey, Call of Duty and the like. While first-person might not be the main focus, Rockstar has an opportunity to appease players that will want to see through the eyes of Arthur Morgan.
