The gameplay of Nier: Automata is very similar to Nier. The bulk of the demo plays like a beat 'em up action RPG, where 2B has a strong and weak attack that she can string together in combos and can jump and dodge, all while using the right bumper to provide support fire from her floating gun turret. Platforming is thrown into the mix, though nothing really too elaborate was encountered. There is a section of aerial combat that was actually quite fun and added some variety, and the scale of the enormous enemy that was fought in this dogfight fashion was an impressive spectacle to behold. While this was a sudden shift in play style the transition was seamless, suggesting that the execution of incorporating multiple game genres is improved this time around. NieR: Automata  will release in Japan for PS4 on February 23rd, in North America on March 7th, and in Europe on March 10th, 2017. A PC version is also scheduled to come next year, but no release window has been announced for that one. It's definitely a hotly anticipated game. First impressions matter a lot, and if the buzz surrounding the demo is any indication, NieR: Automata could be a sleeper hit waiting to happen - perhaps Square Enix and Platinum Games will be able to combine to top the former's incredible 2016 after NieR was a charming game, but NieR: Automata seems to have the potential to surpass it in basically every aspect. With PlatinumGames providing its trademark stylish action, Akihiko Yoshida bringing his beautiful character design, Keiichi Okabe's music and the visionary direction of Yoko Taro, the pieces are really starting to fall in place.

That description is consistent with the development narrative that has been told by Platinum Games, with the studio often emphasizing in press releases that it wants NieR: Automata to redeem the original game's failures. The demo, which is available for free, features action combat that is more akin to Bayonetta than a traditional action-RPG, and the early response from those who have gotten their hands on the demo is a positive one. NieR: Automata represents a big step forward for the series, as it attempts to correct the many mistakes that were made in the original NieR while also preserving its core sense of identity. Fans of the original game praise its story and character development as its biggest selling points, and NieR: Automata will have to carefully balance all of the innovations it is bringing to combat with the things that made the first NieR memorable in spite of its flThe moment you manage to place your ship in a position that allows you to bring down a full broadside on an enemy while preventing them to shoot at the same time (a traditional maneuver that seamen call "crossing the T"), you'll feel like a god. Try to resist the temptation to scream "FIRE!!!" into the mic if you can. I couldn't.The images captured on PS4 show some very visible jaggies basically across the whole picture, while the PS4 Pro version is much smoother. This appears to indicate a superior anti-aliasing solution on top of the difference in resolution.
